Block of the Month

"How does our Block of the Month work?" you ask.

Whether you are a veteran guild member and have participated in many Block of the Month (BOM) events or you are new to the guild and have never heard of BOM, let me tell you this is a great way to basically win a quilt top. Yes, you heard me correctly: WIN a quilt top.

Here's how the BOM for 2009/10 is going to work:

We are having a mystery block of the month. In September the committee announced the "Twisted Block of the Month". Completing each block is a three month process:

The process is then repeated for each additional block ending in May with four completed blocks. Here's how it works.

Members who wished to participate were asked to pay $5.00 to cover the cost of fabric as well as to obtain a commitment from the member. Twenty members participated and $100.00 was collected.

In October packets containing fabric and instructions were distributed to the twenty members. In November the finished blocks were collected, members were given tickets with numbers and a drawing was conducted. The winner was given all twenty finished blocks, leftover fabric and $68.00 remaining from the purchase of the fabric. With this money she can purchase the batting, quilt backing, etc. to finish her new quilt top. Also in November, we started over with a new sign-up for block two.

Pretty cool, huh? That is basically how our BOM is going to work this year.
