Mystery Quilt

What is a Mystery Quilt?

It’s a mystery, I can’t tell you!

Let me do my best to explain what a Mystery Quilt is.

Once a year one of our guild members i.e. Lucy Kise will organize a Mystery Quilt workshop for our guild members.

This workshop is usually held on a Saturday at a small church in Hope, NJ.

Let me try and explain how the whole thing works. About one month before the scheduled class, Lucy will give participants a list of fabrics and cutting instructions. Participants then come to class with their fabrics cut and ready to sew. Although at this point you have no idea what to sew or what the pattern you will be sewing looks like.

After sewing machines, cutting area and ironing boards are set up and ready to go Lucy hands each participant a small piece of paper with the 1st sewing instruction on it. After completing number one, Lucy hands out the 2nd set of instructions. This goes on all day. By the end of the day, someone usually has their quilt top assembled enough that you can figure out what everyone has been working on all day.

In the past Lucy has actually assembled the quilt top before the class and will unveil it at the end of the day.

The whole day is so much fun and the quilts that come out of these workshops are just beautiful.

There is always some sort of food involved, lots of laughs and a ton of sewing.

If you get the chance and have the time give Lucy’s Mystery Quilt workshop some thought and try to attend. You will not be disappointed.

We hope this helps you understand exactly what a Mystery Quilt is.
